Zachary Harmer is a recent graduate of the BSc (Honours) Physical Geography program at Brock University. Zachary will be starting his Masters of Sustainability degree in the Sustainability Science and Society Program at Brock during the next academic year. He has a strong interest in GIS and applying these technologies to questions surrounding natural resources and agriculture. For example, Zachary has completed assignments that focus on soil erosion monitoring in the Niagara Region and crop suitability in Perth County. Major contributions of Zachary during his undergraduate studies was the development of a GIS tool using Python programming, which identified spatial variation in lake responses to 50 years of forest fires in Northwest Territories. Open data have been an important resource to develop Zachary’s research, course work, and innovative GIS applications.
