Colleen Beard is Head of the Map, Data & GIS Library at Brock University. She holds a BSc
degree in Physical Geography and Geology, and a Master of Library and Information Science.
She is committed to promoting geospatial literacy on campus, and to the wider community. Her
passion, or addiction rather, is utilizing emerging technologies to stage the rich historical map
collections for open access.
Her recent publication reveals some of her work, Mapping the Welland Canals and the St. Lawrence Seaway with Google Earth, in Historical GIS Research in Canada. She will discuss her role as data provider AND data producer in the open data context, all in support of academic teaching and research.
